There’s No Space Left in C# Minor, a review

Another post about Margaret Zhang, but what can I say she is pretty influential to me.

After the whole 'rebranding' post she then went to post-

I am not going to go through what I believe the mini-film is supposed to be conveying, so really my thoughts about it.

Act I

Begins with a blank screen in black with a ticking noise beating in your head. This gets you wondering what the noise is and where it is going to be set. Two seconds later it reveals a piano as the screen fades from black to colour. The back of Margaret is followed down a teal corridor till she places herself in front of the piano from the first shot. The rest of the act features clips of her trying to compose her own composition. Within the audio is cuts to silence, representing the mind blocks of her brain not being able to finish the piece. Accompanied by this are shots of her hands and face as she plays the piece; I found these beautiful and compelling. I have also found a new love for piano music because of this, seeing how hard it is to play the piano has given me a new found respect for anyone who can play.

Act II

Places Zhang centre stage playing her finished piece. Being watched by a bleak audience dressed in maximal colours (like that of Gucci's recent trend) that contrast to Margaret's black ensemble gown of Margiela, Streateas Carlucci and Rachel Gilbert. The audience themselves are all female. Reacting to the performance in different ways; one is asleep, the other crying and the last looking like she wants to be anywhere but in her seat. I believe that this links back to what she has previously talked about in her re-branding written piece; the women in the audience represent those online in society. Some have interest and some aren't bothered about what you do unless you are relevant, famous or doing something instagram worthy. In terms of the song is compelling and elegant, if I wasn't watching from a screen I probably would have felt more emotional from it. It has pure emotion running through it.

Act III

The last act begins with snaps of imagery in a rapid movement. I want to call this her photography dream world; featuring beautiful entities in the middle of the desert wearing nothing but dry paint in the sun. The rapid shots make me link them to a train of thought, memory and idea, after memory and idea. The theme of the act is fluidity and movement. Shots feature fabric in the wind, water and colour moulding together and the movement of bodies; creating a beautiful art form of different mediums gliding together. I want to talk about the repetition of the mirror. Zhang always holds it near her face; does this represent herself vs herself? Maybe it reflects her previous opinions. It could be the Margaret we see versus the Margaret she actually is. Again is this the self acceptance she wants?
