Vilshenko A/W 2018

Before we delve into the catwalk looks here is some information about designer Vilshenko.

Russian born designer takes her inspiration from Soviet Fold traditions that she mixes with her own modern take of Western luxury clothing. Vilshenko divides her studio time between Moscow and London, creating a unique take on beauty and design. The main aspects of her designs are the relations back to her childhood, mixed with her love luxurious fabrics that has launched the brand.

Olga Vilshenko herself said: "VILSHENKO is the eponymous brand of designer Olga Vilshenko. Fusing an eastern heritage of craftsmanship and Russian folklore influences with western couture disciplines, the collection comprises finely tailored separates rendered in modern silhouettes – each finished with elegant and opulent touches."

Now you have a brief understanding of the brand, lets look at their A/W 2018.

Now straight off the bat, I love the photography. The set itself is calm and not too busy. It's warm and inviting, yet adding the drum kick brings a playful and rebellious attitude to it. The outfits and designs individually themselves evoke the previously explained ideas of Vilshenko's heritage and love for modern fashion. There is a 90s feel to it. I imagine the girl in the images to be the lead singer of some band. She is almost like a modern Stevie Nicks, that boho queen who has an attitude that people are inspired by. A cool, yet free spirit. If I was to choose an ambassador for this collection it would be the sister band HAIM.

They already dress near to the aesthetic of the brand. Individually they have their own style that could be easily made into a cohesive look. This is their usually go to arrangement. HAIM tend to wear outfits on stage that have their own individual flair but stick to that boho, rocker look. They are also not afraid to dress a little differently, as they have that intriguing and cool aura around them. You either want to be them, or be their best friend. In terms of Vilshenko's story they can also relate to this as they are always priding themselves on their upbringing and their sisterhood. These down to earth sisters would match perfectly to this down to earth brand.

The collection not only has that Russian heritage, but also looks like a homage to 70s fashion palettes. Flowing patterns and fabrics create that boho feel. Yet the darker tones and animal fabrics add that emerging rocker.

I also loves the hints of cobalt blue within the collection, as some pieces look like they shouldn't be in the mix, the blue creates a link to those pieces and the rest of the designs.

My favourite piece is the wine red velour suit. It's a bold statement piece and I am a sucker for a statement. It's also to me the most diverse of the collection. All of the collections encompasses dresses and skirts, many flowing fabrics. This suit is bold and structured, it's a powerful piece.
